CDL Air Brake Test Overview

Anyone who intends to operate a vehicle with air brakes will need to earn their air brakes endorsement. The air brakes endorsement is very common as many truck drivers add this to their license.

There are two parts to the air brakes endorsement exam:

  1. Written portion
  2. Skills portion

The written portion will vary from state to state, but you can generally expect the following:

  1. 25 questions
  2. Multiple-choice questions
  3. Need a passing score of 80% or higher

Air Brake Endorsement FAQs

This will vary depending on which state you are in. You can expect to answer around 25 questions on the written portion of the exam. However, some states give fewer questions (20).
